So far, the Ku Klux Klan has not produced any really great composers http://www.theonion.com/content/news/me http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainmen Oh, the broomstick joke possibilities. Maybe some of my friends really are too young and immature for me. Current mood: Preface: this is an actual entry, not an announcement. So I haven't updated seriously for a while, and I haven't had much of a chance to talk to/see anyone either, so I figured, it's time for a good old fashioned entry. Plus, I'm sitting in a computer lab watching over my middle schoolers (more on that later) and I have a good hour to kill. So, good things that have happened lately: - am working at Northwestern as a TA in Latin for gifted middle school kids - i'm earning money both to save and to help feed my perennial genealogy habit - it's warm (alas) - i'm living at home and things with mom are remarkably good - finished strong last quarter, despite a serious bout of anxiety/depression - capture the flag games are awesome - lots of Northwestern friends in Evanston this year Not so good things that have happened lately: - hard drive crashed at the end of last year; lost half my music, most of my papers from last year, pretty much most my personal philosophical musings and a longer story I've been writing, and all my pictures from the last year (including some of my last of Thunder). - using old Windows 98 computer at home means no instant messenger again. - commuting via the Metra, just like high school. it's still a bitch. - not seeing people as much as I'd hoped : ( - not being able to make it to the Taste - I have a deviated septum, says my doctor. Will be having surgery on August 15. Things to look forward to: - Millennium Park free Decemberists concert on July 18! - Harry Potter the Last - plenty of free time after the surgery. at least this time I won't have to limit my diet to soup for 2 weeks. Well, that's pretty much it. Keep in touch everyone! ttfn ...get your friends to do stuff with you so you don't have to commute all the way back home : ) So, I haven't seen anyone, except for like an hour with Tom and some rather rude cicadas. I have called and messaged people, but no one's around, so we'll try livejournal. I am in Evanston, all day. This makes it easy for me to get around to people during the week. I am a fun and happy person to be around. That makes me a prime candidate for hang-outtage. I am over 21. Need I say more? In addition, I would like to invite anyone who's in the mood for a drive to come on up to good ol' Crystal Lake some weekend for some golf and/or biking and/or hiking (nature preserves = yes). In fact, you could probably come up for the WHOLE weekend (shocking I know). Think of it as a mini-retreat, except with neither God nor the potatoes. Think about it. Tom, Greg, Andy, Emmet, I am looking at YOU! Call me people. Or pick up the phone at least. You know you're in trouble, and desperately need sleep, when your internal monologue begins speaking in the voice of Yakko Warner. In all likelihood, my hard drive crashed yesterday in the middle of doing, well, nothing very taxing. However, that still doesn't change the fact that it won't read the disk, makes a very bad grinding noise, and of course refuses to boot. So in short, don't expect to be able to talk to me that often by IM, or even really by Facebook (I've got tons of work to finish in these last two weeks, and I have to do it all in the library now, as it is). If you want to talk or hang out, the phone is the only reliable way to reach me, until I say otherwise. Later all! My mom actually gave me advice this weekend that I consider has a high likelihood of working. To get me out of my schoolwork and also general slump, I'm going to try doing all my schoolwork before dinner (and if I have to leave something for after, only reading). This will be a complete shift in my usual routine that I've kept since high school. If it works, hopefully I'll wind up being actually productive and still be able to salvage what has become a depressingly pathetic quarter. I'm glad summer's finally here, but it only brings home the understanding that I really need to meet some new people. For some reason, people from Northwestern don't understand that warm weather = you go to the bloody beach! Plus now's the the time when everyone's out with their families, dogs, and girlfriends. Way to remind a guy of what's missing in his life. Some amusing potential band names (no, I didn't use Dave Barry for any of these. it's my own fucked up drowsy mind) Testicular Cancer Where, When, and How to Attack Cuba In Persian Standard Time Fountains of Garth When Douchebags Attack The Trans-Siberian Orchestra (...oops) I Like Grapes Emmet Penney, Greg Obis, and Erik Vogt Make Beautiful Music Together $2.38 With Tax Better Than Your Mom The Compact Flourescent Lightbulbs Whales With Nukes Mmmm...Tasty That's all for now. |
